February 9, 2024

Yesterday, our Kindergarten students helped ring in the Lunar New Year with lots of colours and noise. For many students and their families, Lunar New Year celebrations start tomorrow. The Lunar New Year celebration lasts multiple days, beginning at the first new moon of the year and culminating at the full moon after it. Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival in China, Seollal in South Korea, and Tet in Vietnam, is a time of family gatherings and celebrations to welcome a fresh new year, full of promise and opportunities. 2024 is the year of the Dragon. Those born in the year of the Dragon are passionate, energetic, and charming. That’s a winning combination! Happy Lunar New Year Blacklock!
Coming home today with your child is the Meridian Farm Fresh Fundraiser order sheet. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to support the Grade 4/5 field trip to Grouse Mountain. Order forms along with payment (cash or cheque made payable to “Blacklock Fine Arts Elementary”) are to be submitted at the Office by 9:00am on March 1st. We thank you for your participation in our fundraising efforts.
I wanted to take this time to share with all of you that Mrs. Sabina Weber, who has been our Administrative Assistant for the past 8 years, has accepted the Admin Assistant position at RE Mountain Secondary, starting the week of February 26th. She has been the backbone of our school and leaves enormous shoes to fill. RE Mountain is extremely lucky. Mrs. Weber will be greatly missed.
Last week, your child should have brought home a Student Inclusive Conference Family Reflection Sheet. This reflection sheet will provide you with an opportunity to share what you see as your child’s social/emotional and academic strengths and any goals you would have for your child for the remainder of the school year. These completed sheets are due back to your child’s teacher by Thursday, February 15.
Please remember to reserve a conference time with your child’s teacher for the Student Inclusive Conference by going online to http://bfa.schoolappointments.com. These conferences are happening between February 26 and March 8. The website will remain open for bookings until February 15.
If your child will be absent from school for any reason, please remember to let us know either by phone 604-530-3188 or by e-mail at BFAAttendanceVoicemail@sd35.bc.ca
Wishing you a good weekend!
