Blacklock Blast – January 16

January 16, 2020

It’s been a very cold and icy week and I hope that you had a chance to enjoy your snow day yesterday!  Because of the inclement weather, tomorrow’s Subway Hot Lunch Day has been postponed to next Friday, January 24, and this month’s PAC Meeting has been rescheduled to Tuesday, January 21, at 9:00am and all are welcome to attend.  The agenda has been posted to the Blacklock Parent Connection page on Facebook.

School Cash Online will now be the main form of communication for all future field trips.  This means that information about any upcoming field trips for your child will be entered as an Item in School Cash Online and we will no longer be sending home paper copies of these notices.  You will receive an e-mail advising you that there is a new Item available for purchase.  You will then need to click/follow the link that will take you to School Cash Online, where you will login and see the items available for purchase for your child.  Once you’ve clicked into the Item, you will see all the details and will be able to complete a permission form, if required, and be able to submit payment.  This district wide process will be replacing the former one where we used to send home a notice with a permission form attached to it.  Please be reminded that payment options online include either credit card or e-cheque (works with any bank account, not only a chequing one).  If you need information about registering an account on School Cash Online, you can click here –> SCO Registration Info.  All you need to register is our School Board Name (SD#35), our School Name (Blacklock Fine Arts), your child’s name, birth date, and student/pupil number, which can be found on your Family Portal account on MyEdBC.

A new Blacklock Bedtime Story will be posted on:  Youtube: The Mischievous Librarian every Thursday night at 6:00pm.  Be sure to check it out!  If you haven’t watched previous episodes, they can be found there also.

Points have been added to each of the houses.  Here are the current standings:
Monkeys – 9,340; Parrots – 8,450; Geckos – 9,042; and Jaguars – 8,290.

Have a great weekend!

Susanna Eppich, Principal

INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOOL STATUS DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER

Snow closures and power outages are an annual occurrence in Langley School District. So where do you go to get information about the status of schools during periods of inclement weather? If you are able to access the internet via computer or smartphone, current information about Langley schools can be accessed on all school websites or www.sd35.bc.ca. Updates are also posted to Twitter @LangleySchools and Facebook at www.facebook.com/langleyschooldistrict. If you don’t have internet connectivity but your phone is working, call a relative or friend in an area that has not been affected by the storm and ask them to check the district website for you. Local radio stations are also informed of school status in Langley. Tune in to CKWX 1130AM, CKNW 980AM, Country Radio 107.1FM, Pulse 107.7 or CBC 690AM or 88.1FM for updates.

Please note that Langley District schools are all considered ‘open’ until a decision to close is required. Decisions on school closures are usually made by 6:30am. As always, it is a parent’s decision whether to send their child to school based on safety and individual circumstances. If you feel it is unsafe for you or your child to travel to or attend an open school for any reason, please keep your child home and report an absence to the school.
