Blacklock Blast – January 26, 2024

January 26, 2024

A big thank you to the PAC and all our families for their support in paying for our House T-Shirts and new Gym speakers!  Without the hard work of the parents through their numerous fundraising efforts, this would not be possible.  Your generosity is much appreciated!

We would like to encourage our school community in their efforts to bring their children to school on time.  Lates have approached an all time high (some days as high as 40 out of 281) and staff are concerned about the impact this has on student learning.

Our parking lot continues to be a huge problem during drop off and pick up times.  As a reminder, there is never a time where it is OK to block the drive through lane.  Parents must stay inside their vehicle, unless they are parked inside a designated parking stall.  Drivers must also stay inside their vehicle when it is temporarily stopped in the pick up/drop off lane.  If there are no parking stalls available or spots in the pick up/drop off lane, please keep circling the lot until a spot does become available.  Because we are a catchment school and in close proximity to most of our families’ homes, we would encourage you to ‘Go Green’ and walk to school instead of taking the car.  Perhaps this will help alleviate some of the pressure.

If your child will be absent from school for any reason, please remember to let us know either by phone 604-530-3188 or by e-mail at BFAAttendanceVoicemail@sd35.bc.ca

Wishing you a good weekend!

Susanna Eppich, Principal

MESSAGES FROM THE BLACKLOCK PAC

We have some gaming funds we have to use up and we’d like to put them toward improving the school grounds. Please use the link to our anonymous poll below so we have a better idea of what our school community would love to see most and come join us at our next PAC meeting on Feb 28 at 6:30pm in the school library for more info!  You can also vote in person at the school via the blue box in the foyer. From February 6 to February 15, parents/guardians can reserve a conference time by going online to http://bfa.schoolappointments.com.

LOWER FRASER VALLEY ABORIGINAL SOCIETY

A message from the LFVAS:

Ey swayel,
My name is Jennine, and I am the ECE Facilitator for the Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society. I am writing this letter of introduction to inform you about our Indigenous Family Drop-in program called Mímele (which means little child in Halq’emeylem). Our program is currently running 9-11 am, Tuesday and Friday in Langley at Blacklock Fine Arts Elementary and Monday and Wednesday at Shortreed Community School in Aldergrove. I am hoping that this information can be shared with teachers, community members and families. The Mímele program is a warm, inviting place where Indigenous children and their caregivers can gather to find support, friendship, and connection to culture. We offer a fun playtime, great snacks, and a circle time with drumming. We also have special guests and Elders that come to share their knowledge and talents. Seasonally we have park days and fieldtrips, all free of charge. We would greatly appreciate if you could please share this information with your contacts, we are hoping to reach out to more Indigenous children and their caregivers.
If you need any more information or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. My email is Jennine@lfvas.org and my phone number is 604-308-4044. You can also find us on Facebook at Mimele LFVAS.

Hoy chexw (Thank-you),
Jennine Adams ECE Facilitator
