June 11, 2021
This past week the Blacklock Fine Arts staff were honoured by an Appreciation Lunch put on by the PAC. The beautiful decor and delicious charcuterie boards and fruit, veggie, and treats were enjoyed by all and made us feel very special. Many thanks go out to the moms who put this together!
Our Aboriginal Support Worker Carlyn Andres has made orange ribbon pins to honour the 215 children found at Tk’emlups te Secwepemc and our residential school survivors. They are available for purchase at the Office by donation. In wearing this ribbon, we will remember them. All proceeds will go to the Indian Residential Schools Survivors’ Society.
Mrs. Royer’s Kindergarten students learned about Talking Sticks and how in many Indigenous cultures they are a tool used to make sure that everyone’s voices are heard and respected. They also learned about Residential Schools and how those children’s voices were not heard. The students collected Talking Sticks in honour and remembrance of those children who could not share their voice. These are on display outside Mrs. Royer’s classroom.
Division 1 students have been hard at work creating their first ever Stop Motion LEGO Movies during Library class with Mrs. Huang. Don’t let their short lengths fool you because hundreds of photos went into each movie. You can enjoy these movies by clicking here: Stop Motion LEGO Films by Division 1
KEVA planks are a favourite building medium in the Blacklock Library. This year, students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 took part in several KEVA Plank challenges that included constructing animals, famous international landmarks, boats, ball runs, and more! A slideshow compilation of KEVA Plank creations can be viewed here: KEVA Planks Challenges Spring 2021
