Blacklock Blast – June 4

June 4, 2020

During this term, our teachers have done a truly exceptional job of reaching out and connecting with their students, while also providing meaningful and manageable activities to ensure that learning could continue at home.  Reporting this term will look different than in the past.  You will be receiving a letter from the district outlining the differences you can expect to see.  These report cards, as always, will provide teachers an opportunity to use their professional judgment to report authentically on the level of achievement students have demonstrated since Spring Break.  Report cards will be written and shared with parents through MyEd BC and will be published on Thursday, June 25, by 3:00pm.

We would encourage you to login to your Family Portal account as soon as possible to ensure that you have access prior to the publication of your child’s report card on June 25.  More information can be found here –> Family Portal Poster for Parents
If you need help with the Family Portal, you can click here –> Family Portal Help

Despite all the changes from normal, we are still in the midst of preparations for the 2020/2021 school year.  It is important that you advise the office if you plan on sending your child to a different school next year.  In this way, we can get accurate numbers for planning purposes.

If your son/daughter borrowed technology (iPad) from our school, it is imperative that it is returned by Thursday, June 25.

Congratulations to all the recipients of the KM Club Foot Reward!  It’s great to hear that so many of you are staying active.  Keep up the good work!

House points have been tallied and the current standings are:
Monkeys – 40,002
Parrots – 39,216
Geckos – 39,384
Jaguars – 38,866

Extra points were awarded to the Monkey Team for the set up and execution of the New Learning Hub in the gym this week.

Have a good weekend!

Susanna Eppich, Principal

BLACKLOCK KM CLUB

The sun is warming up, and it’s time to get moving!  For the past couple of months there have been about 40 students participating in kilometre club, and e-mailing their results to  bfakmclub@gmail.com.  Not all students were running or walking, but some were also biking and scootering.

Of our 40 students participating, we have a couple students that have reached 200 km!  Congratulations to everyone getting new feet to celebrate their activity.  We encourage all our students at Blacklock to get active for the month of June and to send their results in weekly.

When you send in your results, please send how many kilometres you have done and the activity you were doing.  For example:  Ms. Eppich ran 5km this past week, Mrs. Weber biked 15km this past week.  At the end of June we will give out the last set of KM club feet.  Let’s get moving!

FAMILY & COMMUNITY SUPPORT

District and school staff are continuing to provide support for our families during this challenging time. The District website has a Family & Community Support page to help parents/guardians cope with the impacts of COVID-19. This page includes links to resources including a comprehensive guide developed by the Langley Children Committee, containing health, housing, and financial support information. On this page you will also find a new weekly blog launched by Gail Markin, who is our District Teacher for Social Emotional Learning. She will be covering a new health and wellness topic every time. Thank you to our community partners for their ongoing support. Visit the page here.

The B.C. government is providing a new Emergency Relief Support Fund and has added service flexibility for parents of children with special needs to help during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Click here for more information.
