Blacklock Blast – May 11

May 11, 2018

The sun is shining, our gardens are being tended with care, the chickens are growing, and it looks like it’s going to be a beautiful weekend to celebrate Mothers’ Day!  We would like to take this opportunity to  honour and say thank you to all the Moms out there, who provide love, nurturing, and guidance to our students.  May you have a wonderful weekend!

It’s not too late to sign up as a parent driver for our upcoming Farmer’s Market Day Field Trip for Grades 1-4.  Stop by the office with your drivers’ license and registration papers, complete a volunteer drivers form, and let your child’s teacher know.  The field trip will take place on Wednesday, May 16, starting at 11:45am (see the teacher for more specifics).

We look forward to the upcoming Nebulae Pod Show on Thursday, May 17, at 1:15pm and 6:00pm.
The title of the show is ‘Living Poetry’ and it features artistic interpretations of some famous poets’ works.  We hope to see many of you there.

This week the Environment Club painted trellises to support the peas and our small apple tree and planted a variety of vegetables!  Mrs. Swinimer and James with the new bee house.  A small herb garden was planted by Morgan and Trishy to give everyone at Blacklock some calming scents, teas, and flavours for cooking.

We invite you to come out and support our Blacklock leaders, by joining us on Tuesday, May 15, and Wednesday, May 16, from 2:45pm-3:30pm in the front foyer for the 2nd annual Environment Club plant sale!  Please help us raise money for our edible school garden.  All of our non-GMO seedlings will be sold for $1 or $2.  See you there!

Next week we will be sending home Edupac order forms for September’s school supplies.  This is an opportunity for you to get all your school supplies shopping done early and in one place!

The Blacklock Violin students are working hard with Mr.Peter and Mr.Will as they prepare for the Strings in Spring year end concert. The concert is scheduled for June 6 @ 6:00pm at the Langley Community Music School. This concert will also include the Blacklock Guitar Club led by Mr. Huang.
