May 6, 2022

Hopefully the beautiful weather we experienced today will last until Sunday so that you can all enjoy a very special Mother’s Day! Here’s to all the mothers and to all those who provide nurturing care to our children! May this day be filled with love and appreciation for all you do. Have a great day!
Tonight, commencing at 6:00pm at the Langley Townhall Pub, our PAC will be hosting a Pub Night Fundraiser. Tickets are $25 each and include a burger and a drink and are available for purchase at the Office until 3:00pm or at the door this evening. Please come out and support the PAC’s fundraising efforts!
I would like to take this opportunity to give a huge shout out to Mrs. Huang and Mrs. Maclean and all of the staff who supported our Scholastic Book Fair last week! To the parents and friends who came out to make purchases, you will be pleased to know that this year’s total sales was $5,973.40…..the largest Scholastic Book Fair in the history of Blacklock Fine Arts! Thank you so much for your support and for continuing to instill a love of reading in our children.
In continuing with our reading goal at Blacklock, next week marks the beginning of the 2022 Hobbit Read-A-Thon. We have a very exciting week planned filled with fun activities, and prizes. Today students will be bringing home a brochure/collection sheet and a reading log. You can start tracking your reading minutes this weekend! Color in a square on the yellow reading log for every 20 minutes you read at home. The Brochure/collection sheet allows you to keep track of your money raised. We are taking one time lump sum donations, not dollars per minute read.
Next week there is a different theme for each day. The theme days are as follows:
1. Monday – Reading in a goblin voice
2. Tuesday – Reading in a Hobbit Hut. Bring blankets and pillows. We will be making forts (or Hobbit Huts) in the classroom!
3. Wednesday – Wear a Hobbit Cloak. Students can bring their own cloak, cape, blanket, or towel to have some cozy reading time
4. Thursday – Reading by Candle light. There will be an event in the gym for everyone to participate in. The gym will have tea light candles and fun lamps. Please bring flashlights if possible!
5. Friday – Treasure Hunt and Family Read – Families are welcome to come into the school to read with their child from 9:00-9:15. We will also be doing a class treasure hunt later in the day.
If your child will be absent from school for any reason, please remember to let us know either by phone 604-530-318 or by e-mail at BFAAttendanceVoicemail@sd35.bc.ca
As the weather improves, our students will be participating in Kilometre Club every Thursday morning between 9:00am and 9:45am. Please ensure that your child has proper footwear and appropriate clothing for the weather, as this time of year it can be very unpredictable. The children are excited to once again log kilometres in order to collect foot tokens. Thank you for your support as we continue to practice daily fitness and wellness.
Have a good weekend!
