May 8, 2020

I’d like to wish everyone a happy Mother’s Day weekend! We would like to acknowledge that next Friday is Professional Development Day and there will be no online instruction on that day. Our staff is planning to hold their second car rally on Friday, May 15, departing from Blacklock Fine arts at 11:00am. We invite everyone to watch for us as we drive by that morning and please remember to uphold the physical distancing protocols. We will follow the same route as last time.
For the latest information from Gordon Stewart, Superintendent of Schools, please see the COVID19 Information Bulletin 2020May8.
Once again, for your information and planning, here is the District Approved 2020-2021 School Calendar.
We are thrilled by the hard work and dedication to learning by our Blacklock students, families, and staff this past week. The hard work has resulted in a giant surge in house points with Jaguars leaping far into the lead!
House points have been tallied and the current standings are:
Monkeys – 28,431
Parrots – 28,306
Geckos – 28,174
Jaguars – 34,613
Remember to send house points (with your child’s name and TEAM NAME) to housepointsbfa@gmail.com
Have a good weekend!
Susanna Eppich, Principal

Tonight’s bedtime story is brought to you by Mr. Huang and Ms. Lou Lou. They are reading AND singing Puff the Magic Dragon written by Peter Yarrow and Lenny Lipton.
BLACKLOCK KM CLUB
Mr. and Mrs. Huang are keeping track of our KM Club; so, please email them at BFAkmclub@gmail.com each time your child completes either 5 km of walking/running or 15 km of biking.
On the last Thursday of each month, between the hours of 9:30am and 10:30am, staff will be available at the school to hand out feet to any children who have achieved the next level in the KM Club. Please do not come to the school unless you have received an e-mail advising that you are to pick up the foot award for your child for that month. If you do not receive an e-mail, please encourage your child to continue participating in this important physical activity.
FAMILY & COMMUNITY SUPPORT
District and school staff are continuing to provide support for our families during this challenging time. The District website has a Family & Community Support page to help parents/guardians cope with the impacts of COVID-19. This page includes links to resources including a comprehensive guide developed by the Langley Children Committee, containing health, housing, and financial support information. On this page you will also find a new weekly blog launched by Gail Markin, who is our District Teacher for Social Emotional Learning. She will be covering a new health and wellness topic every time. Thank you to our community partners for their ongoing support. Visit the page here.
The B.C. government is providing a new Emergency Relief Support Fund and has added service flexibility for parents of children with special needs to help during the COVID-19 pandemic. Click here for more information.
