Blacklock Blast – November 25

November 25, 2021

Good Afternoon everyone!  Sixteen days to Christmas Break!  We have planned some exciting events for the last week of school:
December 13 – Door decorating parade; prior to this event, each division will be decorating their classroom door in preparation for Santa to come judge and announce the winning class.  Three prizes will be awarded in the New Year: 3rd place – ice cream party; 2nd place – popcorn and a movie; 1st place – PJ Pizza party.
December 14 – Red and Green Day
December 15 – Holiday Hat Day
December 16 – Twinkle & Sparkle Day
December 17 – PJ Day; Pancake brunch with Santa

We are also pleased to announce that on Thursday, December 16 @ 4:30pm, Blacklock Fine Arts will be hosting an Outdoor Christmas Concert on the blacktop outside the Gym.  Please have your children arrive back at their regular line up door at 4:15pm wearing their warm winter woolies.  The teachers will bring them inside to prepare for the concert.  They will be performing in groups after which they will be dismissed into your care for the remainder of the concert.  The concert will culminate in a performance by the Staff.  There will be some tents set up to provide shelter for families.

Reminder that tomorrow is Pasta Hot Lunch Day for those of you who ordered it and that the next Hot Lunch Day (White Spot) will be on Tuesday, December 14, and your last day to order for that is Monday, December 6.

Next Tuesday, November 30, is the last day to place orders for Purdy’s or Neufeld Fundraising. The delivery date for Neufeld orders is December 10 and Purdy’s is December 15.  Both will be @ 2:30pm at the PAC Kitchen doors on the blacktop.

Langley Community Services in conjunction with the Children’s Foundation offers a workshop called “Taming the Worry Dragons” which is great for kids with anxiety and their families. Topics include exploring what anxiety means, looks like, and different ways to overcome feelings of nervousness in children.  The workshops run for eight weeks and are held virtually over Zoom.  Registration for various age groups is ongoing and can be done by calling Andrea at 236-880-7809 or Elena at 604-868-0325.

Our In-School Christmas Hamper Fundraiser (Purdy’s Chocolate Bars) continues to run every Tuesday and Friday in the classrooms and before/after school at the Office.  If you would like your child to purchase a chocolate, please send them with the money on those days.  The choices are milk or dark chocolate bars and cost $2.00 each.  Thank you for supporting our school community.

Please continue doing the Daily Health Check with your child and keep them home if they have any symptoms.  As per Public Health, students who develop any symptoms (cough, fever/chills, loss of sense of smell/taste, difficulty breathing, sore throat, loss of appetite, extreme fatigue/tiredness, headache, body ache, nausea, diarrhoea) need to be closely monitored and testing is recommended.  You must stay at home until you receive the test results and symptoms have cleared.  Following these guidelines helps to keep our community safe.

The Ministry of Education’s Daily Health Check poster has been updated to reflect new federal regulations regarding international travel. The symptoms listed remain the same. You can find the updated print version here. The updated version is being translated into multiple languages, which will be posted to the Ministry’s COVID-19 Safe Schools website here. Families can also continue to use the Ministry’s mobile app or online version here.  Please remember to advise the office if your child will be late or staying home for any reason.  Any visitor who enters the building must wear a mask, hand sanitize, and complete the sign in log at the Office.
