Blacklock Blast – November 3

November 3, 2017

This week we enjoyed a presentation by Dreamrider Productions of ‘Zero to Hero’, which taught our students about recycling and saving the planet.  Please take some time to talk to your children about the lessons they learned about this important topic.  We would like to challenge all students and staff to pack litterless lunches, in an effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle!  Congratulations to the Environment Club, who this week spent some time cleaning and sorting recyclables.  Their efforts resulted in converting the recyclables into over $40 and they will continue this work throughout the year to provide much needed funds for their Club!

The parent/teacher interviews this past week were well attended and staff appreciated the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and how we can work together to continue them on a path of academic success.

Last week the school participated in ‘Drop Everything & Read’, where students wore pajamas and brought their favourite book, which they read by flashlight in the gym.  It was wonderful to watch the big and little buddies sharing stories and fun together!

Congratulations to our pumpkin contest winners:  Addison H., Cameron S., Conner C., and Ehinome I.
Each winner received a $10.00 gift certificate to the upcoming Scholastic Book Fair!

The Halloween parade and dance off was a fantastic success once again this year.  Thank you to everyone who supported this event!

Students and staff are working hard on preparing for our Remembrance Day Ceremony, which will take place on November 9 at 10:30am.  Students need to wear all black and are asked to bring a Loonie as a donation to the Royal Canadian Legion for the poppy that they will receive on that day.  The school will be closed on Friday, November 10, and Monday, November 13.

An upcoming event for your 3 and 4 year olds is the Ready Set Learn series, the first event of which will take place on Friday, November 17, 10:00-11:00am, and is titled ‘Movement, Music, and Me’.  There is no fee to attend, but you must pre-register by stopping by the office and completing the registration form.
