Blacklock Blast – October 15

October 15, 2018

This morning Blacklock Fine Arts welcomed the Langley Rivermen to our school to launch a reading challenge for our students.  Your child will bring home a Reading Tracker, which has been autographed by the Rivermen.  For the next two weeks, we ask that you record the number of minutes read each day and submit the completed form to your child’s teacher on October 29th.  The class with the most minutes read will receive free tickets to an upcoming Langley Rivermen’s game.  The students were encouraged to remember the importance of working as a team, setting goals, and furthering their learning.

A reminder that this Thursday, October 18th at 6:00pm, is our Red Carpet Screening Night, which is open to all families of the school.  We will be showing the home films that our participating families made for our 4th Annual Family Film Festival.  Concession items will be available and prizes will be awarded to the film makers. Please come out and support our creative families!

Also, this Thursday morning we will be participating along with the rest of the country in the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill at 10:18am.  Learning about earthquake preparedness is a big part of #ShakeOutBC. Secure your space and improve your safety in just seven steps: www.earthquakecountry.org/sevensteps/

This Friday, October 20, is a Professional Development Day and students will not be in attendance.

Tickets for the upcoming PAC Pub Night Fundraiser at the Artful Dodger Pub are available at the Office for $20 each.  Proceeds from this event will go towards new video equipment and other fundraising initiatives for our school.

This month’s Library contest invites you to come and say hello to Mrs. Huang and Mrs. MacLean in the Library and pick up a free pumpkin to decorate at home.  Bring your decorated pumpkin back to school to enter the contest.  Pumpkins are available before and after school.  Contest rule sheets are available inside the Library.

The PAC is now posting all their notices, fundraising events, treat day and hot lunch day information, minutes, etc. on Facebook.  For current information go to the Blacklock Parent Connection Facebook page and ask to be added to the group.

October 24 & 25 are set aside for Parent/Teacher Interviews, so students will be dismissed early at 1:45pm on those days.  Please make arrangements to have your children picked up at that time, as interviews will begin right after dismissal.  Contact your child’s teacher to set up your personal interview time with them.

Please make note of a letter from Gord Stewart, Superintendent of Schools for the Langley School District.  Natural-Gas-Conservation-10 11 2018
