Blacklock Blast – October 26

October 26, 2018

Today, our students participated in the 2018 Drop Everything & Read event in our Gym, where children spent one hour reading by the light of a flashlight and ‘campfire’.  Tents and trees created a beautiful ‘campsite’ to provide the ambience required for this special event.  Enormous thanks go to our Teacher/Librarian Mrs. Emily Huang and everyone who helped set up the Gym.

Ongoing with our theme of reading, don’t forget to complete your reading totals for the Langley Rivermen Reading Challenge.  The deadline to submit your forms is first thing on Monday morning, at which time we will tally the number of minutes read and announce the division with the highest number of minutes.  Each student in the winning class will receive a ticket to the December 9 Langley Rivermen vs. Nanaimo Clippers game @ 2:00pm at the George Preston Rec Centre.

On Monday, October 29, the students will be dismissed early @ 1:30pm due to Collaboration Day.  Please make arrangements to have your child picked up on time, as there will be no supervision after 1:30pm.

The PAC is organizing a Monster Mash Halloween Dance on October 30 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.  Tickets will be $5/child, which will get your child a piece of pizza, a drink, and a treat.  PARENTS ARE FREE AND MUST ATTEND.  There will be extra food to purchase.  Get ready for a night of games and dance-off, don’t forget to dress up.  There will be a trophy for the best costume!

As a reminder, we will be having our annual Halloween parade and dance-off on Tuesday, October 31, at 1:30pm.  Parents are welcome to attend and are reminded that costumes must be school appropriate, which means no masks, no gore, no weapons, and age appropriate.  Thank you for supporting us as we want this to be a fun event for everyone.

Friday, November 2 is Photo Retake Day first thing in the morning.  If your child would like to have a retake, please bring in the photo proofs and have them give it to the photographer.

Please make note of a letter from Gord Stewart, Superintendent of Schools for the Langley School District.  Letter to Parents – Cannabis Legalization 2018Oct18
