September 13, 2019
Today, we had our opening assembly, where we revealed our theme for the year. “Indiana Jones” (Mr. Huang), along with his partners in adventure, the Spider Monkey (Mrs. Huang), and the Australian Rainbow Lorkeet Parrot (Ms. Eppich), set the stage for this year’s adventure of ‘The Readers of the Lost Arts’. This year’s focus is to instill a love of reading in all of our students. Special clues to help ‘Indiana Jones’ find the Lost Arts will be found in special books that will be read to them. Students have been advised of their pod names (Divisions 1-4 are the South American Amazon, Divisions 5-7 are the African Congo, and Divisions 8-11 are the Australian Fern Gully) and their house animal (Green Geckos, Red Parrots, or Black Jaguars). The staff will be in the Brown Monkey house. We are inviting staff and students to design a T-Shirt for their house. Designs can be submitted to the Office by Wednesday, September 25. A committee will select the winning designs and T-shirts will be created for the students. When submitting, please ensure that the student includes their name and division with their design. Please take some time to ask your child about today’s assembly and encourage them to participate.

Here is the opening video that was shown at the assembly this morning –> Indiana Jones
During the assembly, students were also reminded to submit their summer reading with a shark photo. Thanks go out to Miss Dobbie for creating the bulletin board outside the Gym, where these photos will be displayed.
Some important reminders……when dropping off/picking up your child/waiting for your child, utilize the parking stalls. Please do not park in the ‘Drive-Thru’ areas and do not walk in the middle of our parking lots (use the footpaths and crosswalks that have been marked). The students are watching what you do and we need to lead by example. Following these rules will help keep our students safe.
Please note that all School District #35 properties are Smoke-Free zones. We are, unfortunately, finding many cigarette butts on school property, especially around the playground area. We would kindly ask that you respect the Bylaws and refrain from smoking on school grounds.
Kilometre Club will be occurring most Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please remember to send your child with appropriate clothing and footwear.
This year, one of the rooms in our school will be home to some of the Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society’s preschool programs. This means that during various days and times of the week, there will be parents and children walking through our halls as they make their way to Room 108, where these programs will be running out of. One program that will be running for the length of the school year is ‘Little Feathers’, which is a parent-participation preschool program. We welcome them to our school building and appreciate the opportunity this will provide to our community.
Some more new items have been added to School Cash Online (School Supplies Fees, Arts Performance Fee, etc.). We would encourage you to log in to your account to see if there are any outstanding fees owing. You can reference the green information sheet that was sent home in the Brown Envelope, but if you need more help, please contact the office.

You should have received a school calendar magnet in the Brown Envelope that was sent home with your child last week. If you did not receive one, there are a few extras at the office. As a reminder….Friday, September 20 is School Improvement Day and students will not be in attendance.
Have a great weekend! See you on Monday morning!
