September 21, 2018
Thank you to everyone who participated in today’s Terry Fox Run! We will let you know how much money was raised in next week’s newsletter, but we can tell you that there was much excitement around students collecting points for their houses, which they have now been sorted into. Please ask your child which house they are in. To clarify, this year the students are split into three different Houses within each division and their colours are as follows: Hufflepuff – yellow; Ravenclaw – Blue; and Gryffindor – Red. Students can earn points for their House by participating in various events throughout the year. At the end of the year, the House with the most points wins! Also, the three pods in our school have been assigned names as follows:
Grades K-1 – Owls; Grades 2-3 – Dragons; and Grades 4-5 – Phoenix
Any girls in Grades 2-7 who are interested in playing basketball with the Girls Friday Night Hoops program that takes place up at Brookswood Secondary starting on September 28th can find more detailed information by clicking here —> Girls Friday Night Hoops 2018
On Tuesday,September 25, there will be a school-wide lice check. In order to make things easier, we would ask that students not have their hair braided on that day. Thank you for your support in this.
Our first hot lunch will be a White Spot lunch that takes place on Thursday, October 4, so if you would like your child to participate in this, you can sign up on www.munchalunch.com/schools/blacklock. The deadline for ordering hot lunch for your child is Wednesday, September 26. Paper copies are also available on the PAC bulletin board just outside the Gym.
Mrs. Huang our librarian would like to remind you that our school is still taking part in the 2018 Indigo Adopt a School program! Our school has been adopted by Willowbrook Mall Coles for a second year. That means that from September 15 to October 7, this store is going to fundraise on our behalf. We’re also going to be raising funds to support our library by using the Adopt a School online fundraising platform, which you can find at adoptaschool.indigo.ca. There are four ways that our community can support our school during the Adopt a School program:
- Book Bonus:For every two books you donate to our school online, the Love of Reading Foundation will donate a bonus book, up to 100 books!*
- Tell a Story, Give a Story:Every time you post a story to our Adopt a School profile, the Love of Reading Foundation will donate one book in support of our school library, up to 20 books!
- Adopt a School Story Contest:“Heart” your favourite story to help us win big! The five most-loved stories in each province will be entered into a random draw for a chance to win* a grand prize of a $2,500 Indigo eGiftcard to purchase books! The remaining four top “hearted” schools in each province will win a $500 Indigo eGiftcard to purchase books.
- Visit Willowbrook Mall Coles and donate to our school at the cash register!
Our school is going to receive every dollar raised to support our library and a 30% discount off books when we shop at Indigo, Chapters and Coles using program donations. Please visit adoptaschool.indigo.ca or visit Willowbrook Mall Coles from September 15 to October 7 to show your support for our library!
