Blacklock Blast – September 27

September 27, 2019

Congratulations Blacklock!  Yesterday, we participated in the annual Terry Fox Run and raised $510 to support cancer research through the Terry Fox Foundation!  Thank you to Mr. Huang and all of the staff who made the event a success.

Monday, September 30, is Orange Shirt Day.  This event started in 2013.  It was designed to educate people and promote awareness about the Indian Residential School system and the impact this school system had on Indigenous Communities for more than a century in Canada.  Please have your child wear an orange shirt or article of clothing on Monday and take the time to ask your child what special activities they participated in while wearing their orange shirt.

Many of you have already met your child’s classroom teacher.  If you haven’t, teachers would like to provide you with this opportunity on Thursday, October 3, between 5:30pm and 6:00pm in their classrooms.  This is not a time to discuss your child individually, but rather an opportunity for you to see the classroom environment and meet your child’s teacher.

On Friday, October 4, the PAC will run a school-wide lice check.  This is part of our Health and Safety protocol and in order to facilitate this process, we would ask that students not have their hair braided on that day.  Thank you for your support in this.

Throughout the school year we run various programs, field trips, hot lunch, etc.  This is a reminder that fees/costs must be paid before your child can participate in a particular program or event.  If there is a financial barrier that would keep your child from participating, there is funding available.  Please contact the office where you can complete an application for financial assistance.

If you would still like an opportunity to submit an entry for our T-Shirt design competition, the deadline for accepting entries was extended to Monday, September 30.

Picture Day is coming on Thursday, October 3.  After Picture Day, order your pictures on mylifetouch.ca using your Portrait ID and Access Code which can be found on your Picture Day order form.

Points have been added to each of the houses.  Here are the current standings:
Monkeys – 583; Parrots – 492; Geckos – 499; and Jaguars – 526.

Have a great weekend!  See you on Monday morning!
