September 7, 2018
It’s been a busy week here at Blacklock and a great joy for us to welcome back our amazing students! You are all probably anxious to find out which division your child is in. The SD#35 District Leadership Team has requested that all schools in the Langley School District wait until Monday to inform families about class placement. Please watch for the postcard in your child’s backpack as well as a brown envelope addressed specifically to you, which contains urgent forms that need to be reviewed, completed, signed, and return to their child’s teacher by Wednesday, September 12. Your child’s teacher will let them know when to bring in their school supplies.
Please find below a letter for families from our new Aboriginal Support Worker Jennaya Hayden.
Have a fantastic weekend! Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday morning!

Dear Parents:
My name is Jennaya Hayden; I am a Metis-Cree. I have been with the Aboriginal Program since 2011. I have predominately worked with high school students during my time here. I look forward to meeting each and every one, as well supporting the students during the school year.
Our program is Ministry-funded. It funds, among others, inclusive programs like our Cultural Presenters who share their culture and their knowledge with all the students in a classroom. If you would like more information about the programs/services that may be available, please contact me. Cultural programs and opportunities for Aboriginal students are also available from time to time and if you have provided me your email address, I will forward culturally relevant programs or activities to you that are either provided by our Department or outside community organizations.
My role as an Aboriginal Support Worker at your child’s school is for student support. I am available for both personal and academic as well as cultural support. I try to connect with each student or classroom once a week, depending on the needs of the students. If a student requires extra academic support, I will work with the teacher to provide specific help either in or out of the classroom. On occasion, I will bring guests in to work with my students. Sometimes I may call on older students to lead or facilitate special occasions. It is never my intent to single out a student, or have them miss important classroom time. Most students know that they are always welcome in my room before school, at recess or lunch-time for a chat or for help with homework if I can’t see them during class.
If you have any questions, please always feel free to contact me at the numbers or by email jhayden@sd35.bc.ca. I can usually respond to emails faster than voice messages, since my days are split at the schools.
Sincerely,
Jennaya Hayden
